How it’s made.

How your book is made, how we’re honest about AI, and what happens if it isn’t right.

How your book is made

Every Dearbound book starts with a photo of your own pet. We paint the illustrations from that photo using AI image generation — that’s how each page carries your pet’s real markings and face, instead of a generic breed picture — and then a person reviews and finishes every book by hand before it reaches you.

We’re upfront about the AI step because you deserve to know how your keepsake is made. The art is made with the help of a machine, finished by a human, and made for you. A person checks every page; if an illustration doesn’t look like your pet, it doesn’t go out.

Because each book is made to order and hand-finished, it isn’t instant. You’ll receive your print-quality PDF within 24–48 hours of ordering.

Refunds & remakes

We make each book to order, from your own photos and words, and every one is looked over by a person before we send it — so it should feel right when it reaches you. If something still isn't — a detail we got wrong, or an illustration that just doesn't feel like your pet — tell us within 30 days of delivery and we'll remake it, at no cost. If we try and still can't make it something you're glad to keep, we'll refund you in full. You don't have to explain or justify; grief is hard enough.

Your privacy

Your photo and the details you share are used for one thing only: making your book. We don’t sell them, and we don’t use them for anything else.

To fulfill your order we share what’s needed with the outside services that make it work — to take your payment, store your files securely, generate your illustrations, and email you the finished book. Never more than the order requires.

We keep your photo for 45 days after your book is delivered — long enough to cover any remake — and then delete it. We keep the finished PDF so you can re-download your book whenever you need it. If you’d like us to delete your files sooner, or you have any question about your data, email us at support@dearbound.com and we’ll take care of it.
